Corneal Viewing chambers (CVC) will give the best image quality. Bausch and Lomb, Stephens Instruments and Moria, formerly Alchimia, are the most common brands.
Currently none of the commercially available CVCs are CE marked. Some countries will accept any CVC with FDA cleared since CVC is an essential part of the evaluation for the most accurate donor cornea evaluation.
Bausch and Lomb, Stephens Instruments and Moria are FDA cleared. Moria, being manufactured in Italy, are the most likely getting CE/MDR the soonest.
Some countries, such as Czech Republic and England, got special permission to import CVCs from their respective Ministry of the Health.
Many European countries that import donor corneas from the US ask for spare CVCs to be included in the shipment.
A solution, in case you cannot import CVC is to use readily available sterilized cell culture flasks (Böhnke chamber, Corning, Fischer Scientific) as they will work to capture an image (See shown below).
As long as tissue is covered with fluid, there’s no reason that container has to be full. You need enough nutrient in medium to keep cornea viable for certain period of time.
